Design Decision Wizard
You have to make lots of hard choices when you're designing your online lessons. We took a long, hard look at the research literature, and put together this decision tool to walk you through some of the decisions that can make a really big difference in how well your learners learn from your lessons.
As you might guess, most of the research has been done using college students, but those few studies that did use younger or older people pretty much came to the same conclusions. We'll continue to read the research papers and update this tool. So feel free to check back later and see if your recommendations have changed.

Will Your learners Have...
(More common) Most of your learners won't know a lot about what you're trying to teach them. That's kind of the point, right? So when in doubt, go with these recommendations.

(Less Common) If you know you're teaching advanced learners -- people who already know all the lingo and basic concepts, and you're just taking them a little further down the road, then you have more options open to you. Also these recommendations would work well for review lessons... so even if your course is covering material that's new to your learners, your review lessons can still take advantage of the options this choice provides you.
